Description: According to http://www.absintheonline.com: "Jade Verte Suisse 65 is an absolutely accurate recreation of the original C. F. Berger 65 absinthe verte, and is identical to the fine original down to incredibly minute details. ... it quickly asserts its fortitude with intensely fragrant and complex aromas, highlighted by green anise, hyssop and wormwood. This Verte Suisse absinthe batch is the first edition 'Distiller's Proof', made in very small quantities."

COLOR BEFORE WATER 8/10
Almost perfect, until you’ve seen the Jade Edouard

LOUCHE ACTION 10/10
Thick louche

COLOR AFTER WATER 9/10
Almost perfect

AROMA 27/30
When young, had a nose full of very good green anise but not much more. Anise has now mellowed, and other herbs come to the fore (with a note of fennel in the middle, some wormwood, and a resurgence of anise at the end) . Same for the taste: in the beginning, was so young the anise was overpowering – now there are hints of fennel and lots of
wormwood.

MOUTH-FEEL 8/10
Lingers for very long, but aromas lingering are less surprising than for the Jade Edouard.

TASTE 17/20
Now that it’s aged, very good. Less "feminine" than the Jade Edouard, though – still packs more punch.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 9/10
Well crafted absinthe with fine balance of main ingredients. Less delicate than Jade Edouard, but very powerful.

COLOR BEFORE WATER 9/10
Only because I’ve been introduced to Edouard. The color, however, is clear, natural and crisp.

LOUCHE ACTION 10/10
A very nice, slow louche; slow but not belated; milky yet there is still transparency.

COLOR AFTER WATER 9/10
Near perfect. Again, the Edouard is casting its shadow.

AROMA 25/30
Neat, anise, some wormwood, and alcohol are upfront but lingering not far behind is fennel—I think I smell some coriander—but after that it seems too complex to distinguish the others apart. After water the fragrance is more prevalent. It is still complex and harmonious, and more of the hidden aromas seem to have obtained more strength. However, the alcohol is just slightly obtrusive in my opinion.

MOUTH-FEEL 9/10
Mostly refreshing and subtle, with only a very mild sharpness on the tongue—it could be from the alcohol.

TASTE 16/20
Pleasant, with a slight “baby-powder” after-taste. The only complaint is that a slight increase in the water ratio (about ½ or 1 part more) would settle down the slight alcoholic bite, but some people might like it a bit strong.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 9/10
A very well balanced absinthe. The ingredients that make up the taste and aroma seem fresh and natural. This absinthe is definitely one that would reward you for ageing it.

NOTE: This is from the “new” batch of the distiller’s proof with full labeled bottles.

COLOR BEFORE WATER 8/10
A very dark and rich green. I expected a more emerald hue, it seems to be more... jade!

LOUCHE ACTION 10/10
Started louching at the first drop of water. Thick and gorgeous at the end.

COLOR AFTER LOUCHE 8/10
A milky white-green. About what I expected.

AROMA 18/30
This may be my weakest area to judge. After removing the cork there was a very strong anise smell. A few minutes later the other herbs became more apparent and the fennel took over as the predominate odor. I wasn’t enjoying the aroma as much as with the other Jade products. The odor didn't fill the room as expected during preperation.

MOUTH-FEEL 7/10
Moderately oily texture with a strong tongue numbing bite.

TASTE 10/20
This is where things went terribly wrong. I expected so much more from a Jade product. I see other people rating taste a lot higher. Could something be wrong with my bottle? I hope I have better news to report after it ages a bit. The herbalness (I know it’s not a word) that takes over you mouth that I have come to enjoy of other absinthes just wasn’t there. Sorry Ted.

OVERALL IMPRESSION 7/10
My hopes may have been a bit high from the start. Unless this bottle gets better with age I may not purchase another bottle of VS until the next batch comes out. I hope Ted can improve this one. 7/10
