This new English-language paperback edition retains the voice of the original author of the 1999 French title 'Un mythe toujours vert, l'absinthe' by art and absinthe historian Benoît Noël. Painstakingly translated by the Acadian absinthe historian, Artemis, with collaboration from an American absintheur and collector living near Montmarte in Paris, Peter Verte. This new effort digs deeper than the original edition (now also translated into Italian) into the history, myths, artists, personalities and modern revival surrounding this legendary banned spirit.

Over 70 black and white photos and images (many never before publicly seen or published) have been added along with a Practical Guide that covers: where and how to buy absinthe (and how to tell the distillers selling you authentic absinthe and others who sell modified pastis or worse, those just out to make a buck), restaurants, bars, internet sites, books, films, music, and recipes that feature the Fée Verte. Also included are reviews of modern absinthes and substitutes, and tips on collecting and locating the fascinating variety of rare antique objects dedicated to the art of 'strangling a parrot.' Appendixes include an interview with the American chemist and historian T. A. Breaux, who has set the standard modern commercial absinthes can only hope to obtain, and English chemist and author Ian Hutton's new study on the truth about thujone, a chemical found in the absinthe plant (but also in sage!) once thought to cause hallucinations in heavy imbibers of the drink. Also find out where the U. S. Navy stands when catching sailors who dance with the 'Green Fairy'!

This is the most up-to-date and useful guide Absinthe today, yet has been condensed into an easy-to-carry paperback, offering new insights to experienced absintheurs and an inexpensive opportunity for a first taste of the Muse to the curious. 253 pages. 77 black and white images/photos.
